Research and Environment
We invest steadily on a yearly basis in the research and development of new products, color combinations and techniques that we consider necessary to meet the needs of our market.
The Research and Development department plays a particularly important role in this direction as it is supported by a wide range of modern laboratory equipment where all the necessary control and testing operations are carried out on a daily and systematic basis with raw materials that are user and environmental friendly, both in standard and new dyeing processes.
BERLING is at the forefront of developments and follows with great interest new technology systems, new ideas to create and use functional structures through nanotechnology, while placing at the same time particular emphasis on the development of new building and ecological products.
Environment and Protection
The company, recognizing the need to continually improve its environmental performance based on the principles of sustainable development and compliance with laws and international standards, aims for a balanced economic development in harmony with nature.
Within this framework of the formed ecological perception for the exercise of its activities, it has studied, designed and implemented since the beginning of 2005, an Environmental Management System according to the standard ELON EN ISO 14001:2004 and the EMAS Regulation of the European Union. These Systems have applications in all areas of the company, from Management to Production, Sale and Distribution of its products. In addition, the new plant has all the required environmental permits for its operation, fully ensuring no pollution of the air, subsoil and aquifer.
Berling’s permanent objective and policy, from production design to product disposal, is to ensure environmental protection. This ecological sensitivity and environmental vision are the concepts that underline the company’s staff mentality. It is this established environmental consciousness that dictates what we do, and perform in the light of respect towards the environment.
Ecological Products
The ecological orientation of the company has started since many years and continuous with the production of new products
In the context of the effort for innovation and concern for the environment, we proceeded with the design and production of the first Greek ecological product, the interior wall paint Petite, which was awarded the European Union’s Eco-label in April 1998.
In June 2001, The Deputy Minister of Environment, Energy & Climate Change awarded the European’s Union Eco-label to the product ‘Aqua-Lux’.
Also, the company is in close co-operation with the Ministry and participates actively in the conversations of the European Union about the re-examination of the ecological measures, based on which, the ecological trademark is granted.
In the range of certified ecological products there are Petite Satin & Petite Satin bases A & C, Petite Matt & Petite Matt bases A, B & C, Yes Eco & Yes Eco bases B & C, Eco Acrylic, Nature Aqualux (gloss, satin and matt) & Nature Aqualux A & C bases in gloss and satin. All meet the ecological criteria of the European Union (Decision 2009/544/EC) and have been awarded the eco-label by ASAOS (Supreme Council for the Award of the Eco-label).
Specifically, products specified with ecological certification have the following features: The amount of white pigment is reduced while ensuring adequate coverage, the pigments are produced according to strict ecological criteria, the product releases less solvent, the product does not contain heavy metals or toxic substances.
Environmental management system
BERLING, demonstrating its sensitivity to the environment and people, in full compliance with legislation and international standards, and aiming at a continuous economic growth with respect to the environment and nature, has designed and implements an Environmental Management System at all stages of the production process.
Thus, since 2006 Berling was certified by the accredited institution EUROCERT for the implementation under ELOT EN ISO 14001:2004 standard and EMAS Regulation of the European Community while the same year, the Department of Public Works approved the registration of the Company with the registry of the Community Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) with number EL000047.
Clean Environment
The company, within its environmental protection orientation, aims at being constantly up-to-date and at the same time contributes effectively to international efforts of companies to find sustainable methods of development, became a member of the International Program for Enterprise and the Environment organized by the University of Cambridge under the auspices of the Prince of Wales (HRH The Prince of Wales Business & the Environment Program).
The European Union of Enterprises awarded the continuous attempts of BERLING S.A. for better quality, with the award for ‘high quality of products and services’ in both 1999 and 2000.
